Sapheon Glue (Venaseal)

  • Sapheon Glue

Sapheon Glue is a medical adhesive used to seal a varicose vein.

What is Sapheon Glue (Venaseal)?

Sapheon Glue (also known as Venaseal) is a very safe adhesive that has been used in medicine for over 50 years. The glue is used to quickly and easily seal problem veins, eliminating the need for large amounts of local anaesthetic or sedatives.

A surgeon uses ultrasound to position a tiny catheter into the diseased area of the vein through a tiny incision. The specialised 'glue gun' then delivers a small amount of adhesive to seal the vein, re-routing blood through other healthy veins in the leg.

How does it work?

Most patients experience immediate relief from uncomfortable veins after treatment. Patients can resume normal activities immediately.

Are there any risks I should be aware of?

The Sapheon Glue is made of cyanoacrylate, that has been used in medicine for more than 50 years with no reported side effects or risks.
